In 1521 as Thomas More’s career was on the rise, Richard Wittington described him as “a man of an aungels wyt & syngler lernyng,” in addition to translating Erasmus’s familiar epithet of his friend as “a man for all seasons.” Five hundred years later, the Amici Thomae Mori is pleased to invite submissions for panels across the wide spectrum of Thomas More studies at the Renaissance Society of America’s annual meeting in Dublin, 30 March – 2 April, 2022, especially those that highlight connections between More and Erasmus. Any topics relating to Thomas More studies will be considered, including:
More’s Letter to Dorp and Erasmus’s Exclusion of Julius
More’s Utopia and Erasmus’s Complaint of Peace and Education of a Christian Prince
More’s Life of Pico and Erasmus’s Enchiridion Militis Christiani
Stoic thought in More and Erasmus
Virtue politics in More and Erasmus
Scripture study, patristics, and translation
Rhetorical theory, polemics, and controversy
Late correspondence and Erasmus’s letters after More’s death
