The Centre for the Study of the Renaissance (CSR) at the University of Warwick is pleased to invite Expressions of Interest from highly qualified researchers in the field who seek to apply for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship, tenable in the Centre. The CSR is a buoyant hub of interdisciplinary research, with a well-established international reputation. Specialisms range from the Middle Ages to the seventeenth century, in particular covering Italy, France, Spain, England, the Holy Roman Empire, and their territories. Particular strengths of CSR members include literature, intellectual history, social and cultural history, history of the book, history of religion, history of science and medicine, history of art, history of universities, epistolary networks, history of translation, the relationships between Neo-Latin and the vernaculars, and the classical tradition. Potential mentors can be found here, under 'academic staff'.
Please see the Leverhulme Trust's website for details of eligibility and the application procedure.
Interested applicants are invited to send the following documents by (and preferably before) noon on Thursday, 9 December 2021, both to the CSR's administrator Jayne Sweet (renaissance@warwick.ac.uk) and to the Centre's director David Lines (D.A.Lines@warwick.ac.uk):
a short description of their proposed project (maximum 2 A4 pages)
a copy of their CV (maximum 2 A4 pages), with indication of numbers of words for items in press
a statement indicating:
why they would like to hold a fellowship at Warwick
the precise title, length and status of any monograph in press
how they would contribute to the Centre's programmes of research and teaching
the name of an academic at the University of Warwick whose research is relevant to their work and who would be willing to support their project (this individual must already have agreed to doing so)
the names of three referees (letters are not required at this stage) and why you have chosen them
The Leverhulme Trust's website is likely to address most questions. For other queries, you are welcome to contact the Centre's director.
This year candidates will need to go through a two-step internal selection process: the first step will be selection by the Centre, whereas the second will consist in an Arts Faculty-wide selection of up to five candidates. This second step is aimed for completion by late January, at which point successful candidates will have around a month to finalise their proposals for the Leverhulme's deadline of 24th February.
We will endeavour to select and inform successful candidates to be put forward by the CSR by Monday, 21 December. Successful candidates will normally have a monograph in press, or will at the very least have had their book proposal accepted. The CSR has been very successful in recruiting fellows to this scheme, including in recent years Drs Sara Trevisan, Marta Celati, Claudia Daniotti, Xiaona Wang, and Tom Pert.
